Kosenko-Yeats MR: Let there be no more war
Haunted Planet’s Mixed Reality Series
This Mixed Reality (MR) scene is a statement against war, combining music by Ukrainian composer Viktor Kosenko (1896-1938) and Irish artist Jack B. Yeats (1871-1957). The scene is a memorial to people affected by Putin’s war in Ukraine, the Israel-Palestine conflict and the many other military actions dictated by the political games of those in power.
Interactive Scenes
The scene is interactive. Walking through the field of Ukrainian sunflowers, you can invite the birds to land on your palms. But be careful - the sunflower field is also a minefield. This is the contrast between life and death.
Nature Scenes of Ukraine
Together with nature scenes of Ukraine, the MR app features Yeats’s artwork “Grief” (1951). According to the National Gallery of Ireland, this painting may have been derived from an original sketch entitled “Let there be no more war” and can be read then as an anti-war statement, akin to Picasso's “Guernica” (1937). “Grief” shows rows of soldiers with rifles and bayonets surrounding a rider on horseback who raises one arm in the air as if to lead a charge. In the foreground, a woman dressed in blue comforts a blond baby. To their left, an old man, bent double, reaches out his hands in despair.
